How Do I Know When to Replace My HVAC Unit?

How do you know when you should replace your heating and cooling equipment or improve the performance of the system?  The time may be now if you’ve experienced at least one of these signs:

Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
Even equipment as little as a few years old can be considered enormously inefficient by today’s energy efficiency standards.

Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
Think about replacing your furnace with an Energy Star qualified furnace, which is 15% more efficient than a conventional furnace.  An Energy Star qualified boiler offers 10% more efficiency than a new standard model does.

Your equipment needs frequent repairs and their energy bills are increasing.
This could mean your heating and cooling equipment is becoming less efficient and needs a thorough checkup or replacement.

Your system turns on and off frequently.
This can indicate that the heating or cooling system is not the right size, leading to improper indoor humidity levels and less comfort.

Some of your rooms are too hot or too cold.
Improper equipment operation, duct problems, or inadequate insulation could be the cause.

Your home has humidity problems.
Poor equipment operation, inadequate equipment, and leaky ductwork can cause the air to be too dry in the winter or too humid in the summer.
