New Jersey homeowners need to act fast if they want to take advantage of the current WARMAdvantage and COOLAdvantage programs, which end on June 30, 2013. The State’s current heating and cooling programs provide rebates for high efficiency home heating systems and/or water heaters and for energy efficient central air conditioners or heat pumps.

If you are purchasing a new heating or cooling system for your home, certain ENERGY STAR qualified products may qualify for an available tax credit of 10% of the cost, up to $500, or a specific amount from $50–$300. Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Water Heaters (non-Solar) are among the product categories included in this tax credit program, which ends on December 31, 2013. Qualifying residential customers of Orange & Rockland who convert their oil or propane heating systems to natural gas by December 31, 2013 may be eligible for a $500 rebate. Energy efficiency incentives are also available to customers who install eligible equipment such as high-efficiency gas heating systems. These incentives can be combined with the Gas Conversion Rebate.

The Federal personal tax credit for energy efficient heating and cooling units has been extended back to appliances purchased in 2009. Homeowners can get up to $1,500 in tax credits under the new incentive. Details of the incentive can be found online here.
The federal government is offering a 30% investment tax credit on residential solar property placed into service between 2010 and December 31, 2016.
SRECs are a tradable commodity with a market value based on the environmental attributes/benefits of electricity generated by solar; a clean renewable energy source. One (1) SREC is earned each time a solar electric system produces 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity. Currently valued at $650, an average 600 square foot southerly facing roof area with solar panels could generate approximately $4,000 in SREC income.
