The federal government is offering a 30% investment tax credit or 30% grant from the United States Treasury Department on solar property: a) placed into service in 2009 or 2010; or b) placed into service between 2010 and January 1, 2017 as long as the construction began in 2009 or 2010.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Stimulus Act) extends availability of the 50% bonus depreciation provision for capital expenditures incurred for solar property placed in service during 2009.
SRECs are tradable environmental commodities which are generated for each 1,000 kW hrs of solar production. Currently valued at $650/kW, a standard 35,000 square foot building utilizing 220 kW could generate approximately $125,000 – $150,000 each year in SREC revenues.
